Securing your computer is an important as getting paid by your customers. Unfortunately,
most small businesses don’t have a lot of resources to dedicate to
this. With computer viruses on the rise, this can be an uphill battle.
What can you do to stay protected?
The following is a list of things you can do to help prevent security nightmare on your computer systems:
-
Always use a quality antivirus - We recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus
because of its superior performance, superior detection rates, and
cheaper cost when compared to Symantec products. If you are using
Symantec products, don’t worry, having something in place is better
than nothing at all.
-
Use a firewall or two - We always leave the Windows firewall enabled on
customer machines. We also connect our customer’s internet connection
to a router/firewall. This adds two more layers of security that will
protect you from outside threats.
-
Update Windows - Use Windows Update to make sure all of the latest
security updates for your system. While you are at it, install Internet
Explorer 7. This new version includes many security enhancements.
Better yet…
-
Use FireFox - FireFox is the web browser we recommend all of our
customers install and use. It’s free, more secure than Internet
Explorer, and can be customized with a long list plug-ins.
-
Get an anti-spyware application - We suggest SpyBot Search & Destroy
because it can be used in a business for free. Make sure to use the
update function and immunize your system.
-
Protect your email - Delete any email whose sender you do not explicitly
trust. Don’t even open it. The features of ESET NOD32 Antivirus will
also remove any threats that may be contained within, but it’s also a
good idea to be safe instead of sorry.
There you have it, a short and simple list to help protect your systems for the bad things that can infect your machines. Computer security is a journey, not a destination. This list will get your started on your way.
With busy schedules, it can be hard to remember these things.
We can help your with your computer security needs. If you are in the
