If you use AT&T Yahoo! DSL or any of the variations (SBC DSL, etc.), you will soon be required to use SSL to access your email. Here is a quote from their site:
Important Notice:
Once these security enhancement are fully implemented only SSL
compatible email clients will be able to access client email
(POP/SMTP). Some older email client versions may not support SSL.
Please go to the AT&T Yahoo! Help site to determine if your email client supports SSL and to see if updates or patches are available to support SSL.
